Ms. Anne's Love Shawls

You Are Loved

On August 15th a joyous celebration happened at The NHC Senior Center in Somerville, TN.

A longtime resident of Fayette County and member of The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 and member of Woman of the Moose #2090, Ms. Anne Namishia turned 85 in May! Ms. Anne wanted this year to be a very special year. So she called the administrator at the facility, Janet Hunt, and asked if she could inquire about how many residents they had.

Ms. Anne decided that this year on her birthday she wanted to give back instead of receiving gifts. She was going to give love back to the community and share her happiness and love for crocheting with all the patients at NHC. She wanted to name the event “You Are Loved”

and started the planning with the help from the activities director Deanna Cannon and the Administrator Janet Hunt.

She started working on her “Love Shawls” a year in advance envisioning her goal of presenting each resident with their own love shawl. Ms. Anne’s son Keith drove her to pick up the lovely skeins of yarn, and some she carefully chose online. She put together the gorgeous patterns and color schemes. Each shawl displayed artistic beauty, and each was filled with love, time, and care.

The “Love Shawls” were displayed on a 21’ long table, and as the residents names were called they came up to pick out their favorite one. Each resident spotted their favorite right away! They all sat at celebration wearing their new shawls like a warm hug across their shoulders. Ms. Anne had made over a 100 “Love Shawls”.

Members from The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 and Woman of the Moose Chapter #2090 attended the celebration to support Ms. Anne. Somerville Chapter #2090 gave a monetary donation to NHC. Cookie cakes and refreshments were served, and the residents all sang happy birthday to Ms. Anne. She was beaming with happiness! A year long vision of sharing her love was finally realized, and the residents were filled with warmth and appreciation. The “You Are Loved” event filled her heart with the greatest joy.
