Safe Surfin' Awareness by Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 at Oakland in October Festival

The Somerville Moose Lodge is devoted and committed to this important cause each year. The Moose fraternity has always had concern for the welfare of children as one of its core missions.

Safe Surfin’ provides valuable information on ensuring your children remain safe online. It helps guide parents in taking steps to talk to kids about safe online practices which can sometimes be difficult. As part of this community service, the Somerville Moose also provides free ID kits for families of children and seniors to have on file in case of an emergency. This added security can be invaluable for a lost child or senior.  This year, the Moose Lodge joined the October in Oakland Festival on October 7th and provided 33 ID kits to the community. There was a great turnout and every year the awareness of the Safe Surfin' Foundation grows.  You can find more information at www.safesurfin.org.

Moose volunteers were: Carolann Mason (Safe Surfin’ Chairman) Jerry Gwyn, Sheila Crumby Brogdon, Karan Hawley, Christi Jewel Melton, Kaiya Shoemaker, Joey Johnson, Katrina Johnson, Tamela Meade, Michelle Jones, and Heath Grinder.

Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 Moose Legion Members Host a Children's Fishing Rodeo!

That’s right! You heard it here first! Almost everyone has heard about all the fun activities at the Somerville Moose Lodge #2206,  but have you heard about the fun that the kids and grandkids are having as well?

On July 22nd, the Moose Lodge opened its gorgeous, private  fish-filled lake to all the kids in the community to enjoy! And the Moose Legion made it a blast for the children, parents and grandparents alike!

15 children participated in the Fishing Rodeo in two age groups, 5-9 years and 10-15 years.  The weather was perfect and the participants were excited to catch some bass, brim and yes, even turtles!

In the afternoon, medallions were presented to the little anglers who:

 (1) Caught the first fish   (2) The two anglers who caught the biggest fish   (3) The two who caught the most fish and  (4) The two who had the heaviest stringer in the two groups.

Each child picked prizes from the numerous items donated by FishTales Bait & Tackle shop.  Everyone enjoyed hotdogs & hamburgers and chips.  We thank everyone who participated in this fun summertime fish-filled event! If you missed it don’t worry, we hope to plan another one soon!

Over 20k was raised to help Chelsea and her children at the May 20th benefit! Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to help Chelsea and her family.

Somerville Moose Lodge and Police Department Sponsor Safe Surfin' and Free Child ID Kits for Kids and Seniors

The 2022 Cotton Festival was in full swing this year despite the occasional rain showers. Fayette county families came out to enjoy the many vendors, food, music and enjoy a day with family and friends. The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 and Chapter #2090 had it's annual tent set up for free ID kits for kids and seniors, and provided education on safe internet awareness. This is an invaluable service and it is provided free!

Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to make this a successful event!

You Are Loved Event

On August 15th 2022  a joyous celebration happened at The NHC Senior Center in Somerville, TN.

A longtime resident of Fayette County and member of The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 and  member of Woman of the Moose #2090, Ms. Anne Namishia turned 85 in May!  Ms. Anne wanted this year to be a very special year. So she called the administrator at the facility, Janet Hunt, and asked if she could inquire about how many residents they had.

Ms. Anne decided that this year on her birthday she wanted to give back instead of receiving gifts. She was going to give love back to the community and share her happiness and love for crocheting with all the patients at NHC. She wanted to name the event “You Are Loved”

and started the planning with the help from the activities director Deanna Cannon and the Administrator Janet Hunt.

She started working on her “Love Shawls” a year in advance envisioning her goal of presenting each resident with their own love shawl. Ms. Anne’s son Keith drove her to pick up the lovely skeins of yarn, and some she carefully chose online.  She put together the gorgeous patterns and color schemes. Each shawl displayed artistic beauty, and each was filled with love, time, and care.

The  “Love Shawls” were displayed on a 21’ long table, and as the residents names were called they came up to pick out their favorite one. Each resident spotted their favorite right away! They all sat at celebration wearing their new shawls like a warm hug across their shoulders. Ms. Anne had made over a 100 “Love Shawls”.

Members from The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 and Woman of the Moose Chapter #2090 attended the celebration to support Ms. Anne. Somerville Chapter #2090 gave a monetary donation to NHC. Cookie cakes and refreshments were served, and the residents all sang happy birthday to Ms. Anne. She was beaming with happiness! A year long vision of sharing her love was finally realized, and the residents were filled with warmth and appreciation. The “You Are Loved” event filled her heart with the greatest joy.

April  2022 2090 Chapter Donation to Dream Factory

Somerville Moose Lodge #2206

Sponsors a Benefit for the Dream Factory of Memphis.

On April 15th and 16th The Somerville Moose Lodge #2206 held a benefit for the Dream Factory of Memphis.   The Dream Factory is the largest all-volunteer driven children's wish-granting organization that does not limit its mission to children who have life-threatening illness.  The organization believes children with chronic illnesses and disorders also suffer from substantial emotional and physical pain.

The weekend kicked off with a delicious spaghetti dinner, provided by Woman of the Moose Chapter #2090.  Bright and early Saturday morning The Poker Run started with volunteers at every stop! The poker run had 5 stops; 1.Bumpus Harley Davidson  2. Lightfoot Dairy Farm and Market 3. Barretville General Store 4. Rizzi Pizza Cafe and ended at Somerville Moose lodge.  Special thanks go out to these businesses who helped make the Poker Run possible. The riders were welcomed into the Lodge for a tasty BBQ lunch followed by fun raffles of items donated by members and local businesses. The fun lasted into the evening as The Duane Cleveland Band rocked the house.  Proceeds of the Spaghetti dinner, the poker run, and the raffles made it possible to provide a nice donation to the Dream Factory. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. These children deserve all we can give!

This year our Chapter decided to help out families through the Carl Perkis organization. The Somerville Carl Perkins Center helps families and does not charge them a fee for their service. Our Chapter feels it is very important to help Carl Perkins by providing this donation for Christmas. We believe they provide an important needed service for children in our community and the mission of the center is to provide support to families in preventing and dealing with child abuse in West Tennessee and to help both parents and children meet the practical needs of preserving and improving the quality of family life. A big thank you to  Haley Duffey from Carl Perkis for the tour of the center.

Safe Surfin / Cotton Festival - September 2021

It was a great turn out at the Safe Surfin booth this year. We had a lot of parents bring their children over to pick up internet safety  information and receive their free ID kits. We are very proud to be able to provide this service working along side the Somerville police deptartment.

We want to thank everyone who was able to come out and volunteer, and the Somerville Police Department for working with us again this year.

Somerville Women of the Moose Chapter 2090 Help with Local School Readiness

September 2021

Southwest Elementary School received an extra boost for the current school year today. Every year as parents and teachers scramble to get ready for a new school year ahead, the Women of the Moose in our community are also planning.  They come together to choose a different school in Fayette County each year to assist with school supplies, not only for the students but for the teachers as well. This year the Women of the Moose provided supplies for 15 classrooms at Southwest Elementary School. These supplies included tissues and disinfectant wipes and spray to help keep our teachers and students safe through the year. Additionally, the 15 classrooms received printer paper, white board markers, paper towels, lined paper, crayons, construction paper, and glue sticks. Priscilla Morgan and Sheila Crumby-Brogdon of Chapter 2090 met with Southwest Elementary School Secretary Tekita Grandberry to donate this gift to this wonderful school for a successful year ahead.

Donations to Waverly Animal Shelter- September 2021

In September Chapter 2090 made a donation to the Waverly Animal Shelter.  After the flash flood that left many families homeless, the Animal Shelter needs our help.  They have provided for many displaced animals in need.

In addition to our monetary donation, we'd like to take supplies to them as well.
